Tin based babbitts are considered
superior to lead based alloys in as much as they pour more readily
and provide an excellent bond between the shell and lining. They are
customarily used for high speed, high temperature load bearings.
Lead based babbitts are more economical
and used for low speed, uniform speed and moderate pressure as in line
shafting, electric motors and general machinery. These babbitts are
also used in applications subjected to shock loads.
